01Why a month works here

Most vacation rentals are built for a week: enough plates for a dinner, a kitchen that reheats, a desk that is really a shelf. The residence is a home that happens to be rented, and it shows after the first week. The kitchen is a full Miele suite with an induction cooktop, a wall oven, a dishwasher and a built-in coffee machine. The laundry is inside the home. The queen suite has a dedicated workspace with Wi-Fi and an Ethernet connection. The building has a fitness centre, pools, a beach with attendants, four restaurants and a spa, so the days have structure without a car.

The listing allows stays of 28 nights or more, and long stays are usually priced and cleaned differently from short ones. Message the host through Airbnb before booking a month; it is easier to settle the details in a conversation than in a calendar.

02The winter season

The Palm Beaches are at their best from November to April: dry, warm in the day, cool at night, and full. That is the season the region was built for, and the one most long-stay guests choose. Book early; the winter calendar fills first, and early check-in is not offered in those months because turnovers run back to back.

Summer and early autumn are the other long stay. Hotter and wetter, with afternoon storms that pass, quieter beaches, warmer water, and lower prices. 03Working from the residence

The desk is in the queen suite, with the ocean through the glass, an Ethernet port for the calls that cannot drop, and a door that closes. The living room and the balcony are the second and third offices. The building's business is hospitality, so deliveries and the valet are used to residents who work from home.

• Time zone: Eastern, the same as New York and Toronto.
• Airports: Palm Beach International is about fifteen minutes away for the weeks you have to be somewhere else.

04The weekly rhythm

A long stay is a set of habits rather than a list of outings. Guests who stay a month tend to build a week that looks like this and then vary it.

• Mornings: the balcony, a swim in the residents' pool or a session in the fitness centre before work.
• Afternoons: the beach with chairs and towels included, or the spa's hydrothermal circuit at preferred rates, booked with the resort.
• One island day a week: the state park, the reef under the bridge, Manatee Lagoon in winter.
• One Palm Beach evening a week: the museums and theatres, then dinner from the dining guide.

05The practical list

• Cleaning during the stay is available; arrange the schedule with the host.
• Parking is paid and run by the building's valet; ask about the monthly rate rather than paying nightly.
• EV charging is a level-2 charger with a Tesla connector.
• Laundry is in the residence, with an iron and a drying rack.
• Pets are not permitted, for a month as for a night.
• Guests: six is the maximum in the residence at any time, and the house rules do not allow parties.
• Mail and deliveries: ask the host how the building handles them before you ship anything.

06How to book a long stay

Dates and rates are on the residence's Airbnb listing, and stays of 28 nights or more are allowed.
